Roo-tid is a small design studio situated in the wonderful surroundings of the New Forest. We specialise in illustrating beautiful fabrics to encourage people to slow down and sew. We believe the action of sewing and being creative helps calm those racing minds, allowing oneself to be fully present in the moment.

For us, the quality and design of the fabrics play a key part in this mindful experience. It generates some ‘me’ time to stop and step away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life and simply enjoy finding fabrics that make us feel good – inside and out.

That’s why we love what we do… making people smile! Our illustrations have been thoughtfully researched, drawn, scaled and coloured with the sewing community at heart. Our aim is to produce fabrics that can have multiple purposes and longevity – we are firm supporters of slow fashion and there’s nothing quite like a handmade wardrobe – full of pride, memories and personality!

Our design process is inspired by the thought of catapulting somebody out of their autopilot and into guilt free moments of enriched learning and instant satisfaction of ‘i made this.’ To enjoy every moment and to notice the small things, like the touch of the fabric as it runs through the sewing machine and the sound of the needle as it pierces each and every stitch.

Our fabrics bring colour, fun and simply scream out to be turned into something beautiful… making somebody feel wonderful!

For us, It doesn’t just stop at designing wonderful fabrics… we are just as passionate about our whole manufacturing processes. That’s why it is vital for us to be a part of a system that counteracts the immoral working conditions and contamination of the earth, seas and air that sadly much of the textile industry are still a part of. To educate ourselves and our customers that beautiful fabric shouldn’t be at the cost of our planet and wellbeing.

For this reason we are proud to say all our fabrics sold by the metre are produced in controlled organic farming and are fully GOTS certified. A certification that has worldwide recognition as the world’s leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria.

Being GOTS certified allows us to work with farmers who cultivate their soil and grow organic cotton without the use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. Instead, our cotton is grown in mixed cultivation with crop rotation and scent attractants. These all naturally help keep the pests and weeds at bay.

We simply can’t do what we do alone – that’s why it’s so important to us that we make sure every person who helps produce our organic fabrics are well looked after. We only work with manufacturers around the world who comply with the ethical working conditions according to The Global Organic Textile Standards. This ensures each worker from field to factory is working in a safe environment with sociable working hours and receiving fair wage – Something everybody deserves!

We want everybody to enjoy our fabrics, no matter what your creative ability. That’s why we decided to launch our home and giftware range. Bright, bold designs full of character and proudly manufactured in the UK. So, if sewing isn’t your thing or you simply fancy giving the sewing machine a rest, then we’ve got your back with our exclusive fabrics specially designed just for our home and giftware ranges!

Being creative, responsibly.
